Plastic bag barriers can minimize the amount of cleaning required, especially when there are soiling issues such as sweat or a wound. 

There are two ways to use a plastic barrier:

1. Cover the body - place the limb such as the foot in a lightweight clear plastic bag, or cover the body with clear plastic stretch wrap (light Saran Wrap, Glad, etc)
   
2. Cover or bag the pad - place the pad in a lightweight clear plastic bag (1 or 2 ml weight), or cover the pad with clear plastic stretch wrap (light Saran Wrap, Glad, etc) 

It is always advisable to use a barrier in clinical settings but are also wise to use in home settings to keep the pads fresh over time.

Occasionally you can use a lightly dampened microfiber cloth to gently clean the LEDs and pad surface, the pads should not be damp or wet. Never wet or submerge the pad. Always make sure that the pad is thoroughly dry before use. 

No two people are the same and lifestyle and the type of treatment program and consistency will have an impact on the results. Depending on the type of treatment, some people see a difference after the first use. However, healing scar tissue and more serious conditions require consistent usage over a period of 6-8 weeks for recovery.
